Why The Big Green Idea?

As we make our way into the 21st century we face an ever-increasing series of environmental and humanitarian challenges as well as an alarming increase in the rate of extinction and reduction in biodiversity. It has never been more important for governments, businesses, organisations and individuals to take action. If we are to avoid runaway climate change and irreversible damage to our ecosystems we need to find and implement solutions now.

Once you know how, you can actually save money at the same time as conserving the earth's resources, and, by making a few more informed and ethical choices when you shop, you can make a real difference to some of the most disadvantaged communities in the world.  By living a more sustainable lifestyle you'll also become a lot healthier and have a great deal of fun; contrary to popular belief, being green is not all about hairy shirts and hemp knickers!

This all sounds great, but where do you begin?

There are many individuals and organisations out there offering very valuable advice on all things ‘green’. There are some great courses, books and magazines, as well as people demonstrating wind turbines/solar panels and big sexy green gadgets, and there are also loads of wonderful people campaigning and lobbying government and local authorities – but there seems to be a gap.

It seems that there are very few people offering help directly to individuals who would like to make changes but don't know where to begin because they can't afford to tap into, or have not been reached by, the current 'green' media machine. This problem seems to be especially relevant for those on low incomes.

Red Admiral on a flowerOur Big Green Bus addresses these issues by going directly to individuals and communities who are looking for help, and offering them information, guidance and expertise on a whole host of sustainable topics. Most importantly, we do this in a hands-on and accessible way.
